Simply be Mindful 8-week online mindfulness course for women over 40

The aim of this course is to

  • Offer you skills to meet life’s challenges and difficulties, both internal and external and
  • skills to develop more awareness and appreciation of the pleasant moments in life that we can often overlook. In other words, to respond more skilfully to all of life’s inevitable ups and downs.

This is a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Life course (MBCT-L) and is led in real time by Suné Markowitz-Shulman.

The course is designed to cultivate mindful awareness of our body, emotions and mind so that we can live our lives with a greater sense of wellbeing, kindness and resilience. It is an evidence-based course, developed in the light of research at Oxford University and other leading research centres and where I completed my training.

The weekly two-hour, 15 minute sessions provide an in-depth exploration of mindfulness skills and techniques within an internationally tried-and-tested framework, also recognised by the UK’s National Institute of Clinical Excellence.

The course will take place online using the platform Zoom (see further information below to ensure you have the minimum tech requirements). We’ll send out guidance for using Zoom when you book and a guide to getting the best out of this course.

What will you learn on this course?

  • An understanding and recognition of our tendency to live much of life on autopilot and the skills and techniques to help us become more fully present
  • Mindfulness practices and skills to help manage stress and enhance wellbeing in your daily life
  • An increased ability to relax and cope with difficult and stressful situations
  • An ability to be steadier with whatever is happening without resisting it or judging it as good or bad
  • Self-compassion and being kinder to all aspects of yourself (and others)
  • Lessons on how to apply mindfulness to your daily life by after the course has finished
  • Modules will be sent weekly after each session with audio files specially tailored to the course

Is this course for me & how can I do this at home?

  • The course is suitable for women aged 40 and above who want to learn mindfulness as an aid to health and well-being in peri-menopause and beyond.
  • You will be taught by an experienced and qualified teacher in an online group of no more than 16 people, with opportunities to share your experience in smaller ‘break out groups’. The focus of the course is experiential rather than theoretical with practices to do in between sessions.
  • To get the most out of this course you will need a room in your home where you will not be distracted by other people and which can serve as a confidential space. (which can also be used after the course has been completed)
  • Although mindfulness cannot entirely remove the symptoms of menopause, it can help you deal with them more calmly and compassionately.
  • It is appropriate for people new to mindfulness, anyone who has tried mindfulness before, either a course or an app or perhaps read a book and wants the structure of a course led by a qualified and experienced teacher.

Technical requirements

The course will take place using the online platform Zoom. To use Zoom you will need a computer or a phone with a speaker and camera. Full instructions will be sent with your Welcome email when you book.

Mental health

Although mindfulness can be helpful in managing depression and anxiety, our courses are not recommended for people who are currently experiencing an episode of clinically diagnosed anxiety, depression or other psychiatric illness. We do not offer mindfulness as a ‘clinical intervention’, but rather as an aid to everyday health, wellbeing and helping prevent relapse.

As part of your application please complete and return the questionnaire provided, to give the teacher some idea of your level of support and whether the course is right for you at this time. If necessary Suné may ring you to clarify issues, and you also may wish to contact us for clarification if you have any questions.

The 8 week course is also a requirement in order to undertake a mindfulness based teacher training, however the course does not qualify you to teach mindfulness. You will receive a certificate at the end of the course as proof of your attendance (minimum of 6 sessions)

Level of commitment

Mindfulness is a practical skill and a habit, rather than a theory or body of knowledge.

Before signing up for the course it is important to recognise that getting real lasting benefit requires the commitment of regular time and effort. It is similar to getting physically fit – you need to practice regularly to train your ‘mental muscle’.

To get the most from the course we recommend you attend all 8 sessions and carry out the suggested home practice, which is a gentle but regular daily discipline of various meditation and awareness practices, with the help of guidance from carefully tailored audio resources offered by Suné

We recommend trying to set aside 40 minutes a day, which can be spread around your schedule. You will receive plenty of support for this, including how to fit it into your life.  It may seem a stretch at first, but once the habit starts to be established, most people find it invaluable and highly motivating.

After the 8-week course

This will be discussed in more detail after the course, but there will be an opportunity to join a paid membership for women who have completed the course with me. In this space you can continue your practice with a group of likeminded women on a similar journey in a safe and gentle space. I will be leading bi-weekly mindfulness sessions, monthly magic mornings, monthly talks, Q&A’s and interviews with other inspirational women.

£300 for 8-week course

(No refunds or credit notes are offered with less than three weeks notice before commencing of program)

Minimum of 6 sessions needs to be attended to receive the certificate of attendance

1:1 VIP Support for women who feel like they are ‘ruled by their hormones’  and peri-menopause is negatively impacting their lives.

In this 3 month program, I help you mindfully navigate your hormones, lifestyle and eating habits with tools, skills and support so you will be prepared, informed and empowered to make the best decisions for your wellbeing as you transition through menopause.

The hormonal fluctuations of peri-menopause are affecting your work, relationships and social life.

You’re so stressed, exhausted and busy with managing a career, family and life, that you can’t think straight about what it is you need to be healthier, happier and more content.

You find yourself stuck in a cycle of overeating and dieting, still unable to lose weight and be happy in your body, hoping that the next diet miracle will be the answer to all your problems.

You know you need to do something to feel better, but you don’t know where to start.

You don’t want advice, food plans, more to add to your to-do list or more ‘success’ strategies to follow to ‘manage your health’

You’re a smart, independent woman and you crave uninterrupted thinking time so that you can figure out what you need to do next.

My ‘breathing spaces’ for women in all phases of menopause are just that

  • Non-judgemental, safe space for optimal intelligent thinking in order to make good decisions about your health and wellbeing
  • Uninterrupted headspace and your own private island of sanity
  • Structured coaching to move you forward, to reignite clear thinking so you feel empowered to take action that serves you
  • Tools, advice, support and guidance offered as you need it

8-Week Menopause Wellbeing Fundamentals a Group Program

If you are ready to feel empowered and take excellent care of your wellbeing during this transition phase of peri-menopause to menopause and value the support and encouragement of like-minded women going through similar life experiences then this group program is for you.

Here you can sign up and find out more about the trial version of my 8-week course that helps women in their forties prepare for and manage the symptoms of perimenopause, using a combination of non-diet nutrition, mindfulness and intuitive eating.

This programme combines what I’ve learned from my two decades of work with women in a targeted way, providing you with the knowledge to understand what is happening in your body and the tools to manage these changes and prioritise self-care.

These transition years are not widely discussed in the same way that we talk about fertility, birth control or pregnancy and I’m seeking to change that – moving middle age out of the shadows and into the limelight where we can still be confident, healthy and sexy.  If your not sure if this applies to you, ask yourself if you have experienced any of the following:

      • Increased tiredness/difficulty sleeping
      • Low moods or emotional volatility
      • Weight gain, even with no change to your eating habits
      • Changes in skin, hair and body
      • Lack of energy
      • Lower libido
      • And more than 25 other symptoms!

For a long time, we’ve been taught to explain these away from the stress of managing a career, family or lockdown (!) but in reality, our bodies are also changing and the decisions we make now will have long-term implications for our health.

If you want to have better energy, improve sleep, have your best body ever and feel happy and content then this is for you!

I am running this course at a SUBSTANTIAL discount to my usual rates and will require honest feedback from participants to help hone the content.

If you are ready to explore empowering, positive changes and want to drive the evolution in how we talk about women’s health, ageing and the menopause please join me now!

      What this program entails:

      • We start on Tuesday the 19th of January 2021!
      • This 8-week program will be hosted in a closed Facebook group and will be based around mindfulness, menopause nutrition and a food plan which will support your physical and mental wellbeing during this time.
      • You will get daily motivations and reminders to help instil new healthy habits
      • We will have set times to practice mindfulness together and other mindful activities
      • There will be a weekly group call with a targeted learning piece and the opportunity to ask questions around this
      • Every week one of the seven wellbeing fundamentals which support mental and physical health will be discussed in detail so you feel confident and empowered to be the best version of you!

      BONUS:

      • 1:1 private coaching session with me (only available as part of this trial) Worth £149
      • Guest interview with a movement specialist
